Integrated NIR sensor - benefits and features

Contrary to traditional moisture meters, the Scienta NIR sensor uses same spot measurement. This makes accurate measurement of uneven materials possible. In the integrated sensor both Basis Weight and Moisture are measured from the same spot further increasing the accuracy and reliability of the measurement.

A highly important feature of the sensor is its ability to detect wetting agent strips. By reading the moisture content accurately we can monitor how much wetting agent is applied in a spunbond application. In addition, the position of the strip is recorded and stored in a database together with the reel data.

Streaks and missing fibres can be seen in the Basis Weight CD profile. A very accurate 10mm resolution is used for the profiles although a step profile with a resolution matching the line construction can be displayed.

All trends and other data are stored in the reel report. This data may be integrated into the factory database using a standard OPC interface.

By using long lasting components such as stepper motors and standard halogen lamps the maintenance of the sensor is kept at a minimum. The light bulb can be changed by the user and most other parts require no service at all. This reduces the need of service calls and makes the ongoing maintenance easy and flexible.

Combining the sensors into one unit makes the construction much more cost efficient than having two separate sensors.
